The Karnataka Government Chief Secretary has instructed that the Child Helpline number 1098 must be mandatorily displayed on the buildings of all government, semi-government, and service institutions across the state.
Stressing that the protection of child rights is an urgent need, the Chief Secretary noted that the Mission Vatsalya scheme has been implemented to ensure the development and protection of children, with emphasis on supporting children in distress. Child Helpline 1098 plays a crucial role in identifying such children, sharing distress information, and providing rehabilitation services.
It was stated that if the helpline number is widely publicised, immediate responses can be ensured for cases of child marriage, child labour, and children in distress.
The Chief Secretary directed all government, semi-government, educational, and private service institutions in Karnataka to display the Child Helpline number 1098 on permanent boards on their buildings.
It was also mentioned that while some departments have already complied, others have failed to display the number due to confusion about directions.
The Chief Secretary has now instructed all such departments to immediately take action and prominently display the helpline number without delay.
