The lesser coucal (Centropus bengalensis) is a species of cuckoo but they are not brood-parasitic cuckoos.
They are very similiar to the Greater coucal albeit a bit smaller.
It is distinguished by its smaller size, less prominent bill, darker iris, silvery shaft streaks on the feathers of the head and back.
It is one of the few coucals that show seasonal plumage differences. The sexes cannot be distinguished in the field.
It has a much longer claw on its hind toe and a distinct call.
