The 60th commemoration of Squadron Leader Ajjamada B. Devayya, Mahavir Chakra (posthumous) awardee who laid down his life in the 1965 Indo-Pak war, will be held in Madikeri on September 7, announced Bollajira B. Ayyappa, President of Codava Makkad Koota.
The commemoration will include wreath-laying at the Swahid Ajjamada B. Devayya Circle at 11 a.m., in collaboration with Codava Makkad Coota, the Ajjamada family, and the Ajjamada Devayya Trust.
Invited dignitaries include Kodagu-Mysore MP Yaduveer Wodeyar, Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna, Madikeri MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda, Legislative Council Member Mandepanda Suja Kushalappa, Air Marshal Kodendera Nanda Kariappa, senior politician M.C. Nanaiah, former minister M.P. Appachchu Ranjan, former MLA K.G. Bopaiah, former Vidhan Parishad member Veena Achaiah, and others.
The Codava Makkad Coota has honored Devayya’s sacrifice by installing a bronze statue in Madikeri. He remains remembered as the only Indian Air Force officer awarded the Mahavir Chakra posthumously for his gallantry in shooting down an enemy aircraft before sacrificing his life in 1965.
