The 79th Independence Day celebrations organized by the Kodagu District Administration were held meaningfully in the premises of Madikeri Fort amidst rain. Kodagu District In-charge Minister N. S. Bhosaraju hoisted the National Flag. After hoisting the flag, the District In-charge Minister witnessed a grand spectacular march past by 23 contingents under the leadership of Reserve Police Sub-Inspector Hanamanth Koujolgi. The contingents included students from various schools and colleges. Students from seven schools presented patriotic skits and dances. A large number of spectators, holding umbrellas, watched the performances of the children and supported them wholeheartedly.

A colourful performance by the children of Basavanalli’s Maharshi Valmiki Tribal Residential School, dressed as tribals with leafy headgear and garlands of lemons, dancing to the folk song “Naavu Kaadu Kuruba Makkalu Doori Doori, Naavu Kaadige Arasaru Doori Doori” drew special attention and appreciation from the spectators. Students from Balakara Balmandira School presented a patriotic skit, while students from St. Michael’s Kannada Medium Primary School, Rajeshwari English Medium School, Balakiyara Balmandira, General Thimayya Public School and St. Joseph’s Kannada Medium Primary School presented patriotic dances that evoked deep patriotic fervour among the audience.

MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda presided over the function. Municipal Council President P. Kalavathi, District President of Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee Dharmaja Uthappa, District Commissioner Venkat Raja, District Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan, G. P. CEO Anand Prakash Meena, Additional Deputy Commissioner R. Aishwarya, Additional Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar and several other officials were present on the occasion.
