INTERNATIONAL TIGER DAY

CLN has posted many articles on Tigers – a quick recap:

We have now quite an impressive archive of pictures that we have collected of Tigers since the time we have gone Online.

Curiously, Tigers have made a more visible appearance with their cubs outside of their sanctuaries – we have attached a video that is doing the rounds. Clearly something is amiss if these large cats are stepping out of their sanctuary – the Forest Department needs to understand why and provide guidelines to people in the affected areas.

  1. The Bigger Picture

    World Tiger Day isn’t just about tigers—it’s about preserving biodiversity, forest health, and climate balance. Tigers help keep prey populations in check, which supports healthy plant growth and water security. Their decline is a red flag for environmental degradation.

    On this World Tiger Day 2025, let’s use our voices, words, and digital spaces to reignite the urgency to protect these magnificent creatures. Whether it’s a heartfelt message, a striking slogan, or a powerful image, every small step can help save the roar for generations to come.
    Let the stripes inspire. Let the roar remind.

  2. Here’s a list of Jim Corbett’s books that prominently feature tigers:

    1) Man-Eaters of Kumaon:
    This is arguably his most famous work, recounting his experiences hunting man-eating tigers and leopards in the Kumaon region.

    2) The Temple Tiger and More Man-Eaters of Kumaon:
    A collection of stories continuing the themes of his earlier work, focusing on man-eating tigers and Corbett’s efforts to protect local communities.

    3) The Second Jim Corbett Omnibus:
    This collection includes stories from Man-Eaters of Kumaon and The Temple Tiger, offering a comprehensive look at his tiger-related adventures.

    4) The Fortunate Tiger and Other Close Encounters:
    This selection includes stories featuring various encounters with tigers and other wildlife, highlighting Corbett’s observational skills and respect for nature.

  3. A world without tigers is a world off balance. — Let’s protect them.
    Give the tiger a chance to walk freely again.
    Act now, or the roar will fade to memory

  4. On the occasion of International Tiger Day 29th Jul 2025.
    {Poem written in year 2022, on one of the most famous wild tigers who passed away in 2022}

    SUPERMOM: COLLARWALI

    Collarwali now in heavenly abode,
    Her work on earth needs a super ode.
    Old age, health issues took their toll;
    She was happy at Pench, where like a king she prowled.
    Giving birth to twenty nine cubs,
    A record, nowhere else in the world wide web!
    She has left behind a legacy:
    For a long time, enough stock of her species.
    She was a huge, strong predator,
    When she went for the kill, nothing could deter.
    Often seen resting with cubs near waterholes,
    tourists thronged To shoot : her photo , their goal!
    Thanks to her, Pench reserve was popular;
    Her movements were known thanks to her collar.
    If sick, she knew on guards she could depend;
    Who tranquilized her, so vets would attend.
    A fine example of dealing with conflict;
    People put their best forward, conscience pricked.

  5. This trend raises important concerns about potential disturbances in their natural habitat. It’s essential for the Forest Department to investigate the cause and provide appropriate guidance to residents in the affected areas.

  6. Depletion of forest cover has been taking place at an alarming rate. Unless the Forest Department takes appropriate steps to maintain the Reserve Forests, Tiger Sanctuary at Nagarhole and the corridor beyond to restore the ecological balance, human-animal conflict will be on the rise.
