The new world chess champion, 18-year-old Gukesh Dommaraju, has made history in India on becoming the youngest world chess champion. No doubt, this was a proud moment for the entire nation. He has shocked the world of chess when he became the youngest world champion at the age of just 18. It marked the peak to date of his career, his greatest moment in a long string of achievements. Despite his limited academic background, Gukesh’s decade long dedication and ambition to reach this position is commendable.

He displayed tremendous character and a decade of deep- rooted ambition, perseverance, and immense sacrifice- not just for him, but also his parents who had to battle financial challenges- culminated in ecstasy for India.

It was not just a chess board for him. But it was a sacred art, a sacred tool that got him so far. How did he celebrate his victory? The moment he realised that he is the youngest chess player in the world, he didn’t jump with joy or aggression. But tears of gratitude, tears of solitude started rolling down his eyes. Being so mindful of his body language, so mindful of his manners, he got up when someone greeted him or congratulated him. When someone said ” Don’t cry” He started smiling with joy arranging his chess board.  Being so humble paying his gratitude to each and every piece at the table, showing gratitude towards his parents, towards his teachers, towards his coach. Being the youngest ever undisputed world chess champion, showed us how the victory should be celebrated as well and that is how victory is celebrated!

Kudos to Gukesh for his unwavering commitment, which has brought Indian chess to the global spotlight. Not only he has become the new poster boy of India, the victory celebrated by him was so impressive.

His achievements reflect how mastering one’s mind, emotions and self – belief are critical both on the chessboard and in life.  His story reminds us that greatness is not solely defined by age or accolades, but by the relentless pursuit of one’s goals. His humility and dedication serve as an inspiration to us all encouraging us to chase our dreams with vigor and resilience.

As we celebrate Gukesh’s remarkable achievements, let us carry forward his spirit of perseverance and passion in our own lives. After all, every great journey begins with a single step. Kudos to Gukesh for his unwavering commitment, which has brought Indian chess to the global spotlight which has made him the new poster boy of chess in India.
