Coorg Public School, Gonikoppal, celebrated its 29th Annual Day on 16 October 2026, with the theme “Desi Roots to Global Routes — A Cultural Khazana” celebrating traditions from across the world and bringing people together through the universal language of culture.
Inspired by the recognition of International Dimension in Schools, the programme featured themes that connected students to their cultural roots while broadening their understanding of the world. The performances beautifully reflected how cultural heritage can transcend geographical boundaries, fostering mutual respect, unity and a global outlook.
The distinguished Chief Guest for the occasion was M. Punith Kuttaiah, IRS, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Hyderabad, and a distinguished alumnus of COPS. In his address, he fondly reminisced about his school days at COPS and acknowledged the significant role an educational institution plays in shaping a child’s character. He emphasised that students should face challenges with determination, overcome obstacles and move forward with an unwavering spirit.
He further highlighted the importance of providing children with the right moral compass, guided by parents and teachers, to help them make sound choices and grow into responsible individuals.

Punith Kuttaiah was felicitated by the members of the School Trust, including Dhanya Subbaiah, President; M. T. Machaiah, Treasurer; Prabha Subbaiah, Senior Trustee; and Dr. M. Ramachandran, Principal of the institution.
The celebration also recognised academic excellence. Awards were presented to students who brought laurels to COPS in the ICSE and PU Board Examinations. The Academic Trophy of the Year was awarded to Sharath and Varsha Houses. The prestigious Cock House Trophy, recognising academic excellence and teamwork, was won by Varsha House.
Dhanya Subbaiah, President of the School Trust, presided over the function. The esteemed members of the Trust and the parent fraternity also graced the occasion with their presence.
In his presidential address, Dhanya Subbaiah reflected on the journey of the institution. He recalled that when the school was established away from the bustling city, many questions were raised about its prospects. However, the institution has grown steadily, demonstrating that being rooted in one’s locality is not a limitation but a strength.
The Principal, Dr. M. Ramachandran, presented the Annual Report, highlighting the institution’s achievements across various fields and reaffirming its commitment to the holistic development of its students.
The cultural extravaganza brought the theme to life through a vibrant array of performances celebrating the diversity of cultures across the world. Each presentation showcased the richness of traditions and the beauty of cultural exchange, conveying the message that while cultures may differ in their expressions, they unite humanity through shared values and experiences.
The celebration concluded on a note of harmony and togetherness, reflecting the school’s enduring commitment to nurturing students who remain deeply connected to their roots while embracing the wider world with confidence and understanding.
