Ponnad Farmer Producer Company Limited, which has been supported and guided by Isha Outreach, has been recognized as the No. 1 best-performing Farmer Producer Organization in Karnataka and has been awarded the prestigious FPO Output Excellence Award.
The award was presented at the 9th Foundation Day function organized by the Centre of Excellence for Farmer Producer Organizations (CoE-FPO), Government of Karnataka, Bengaluru.
The honour was conferred following a highly competitive selection process. Several Farmer Producer Organizations from different parts of Karnataka participated in the selection process. Ponnad FPO successfully advanced through three stages of evaluation, including an interview, comprehensive verification of documents and a final jury round, and was selected as Karnataka’s No. 1 FPO among the participating organizations.
The programme was inaugurated by Shri Upendra Pratap Singh, IFS, Commissioner, Watershed Development Department, Government of Karnataka. The programme was attended by Prof. Ashok S. Alur, Vice Chancellor, Kodagu University; Dr. Surendra Babu, Chief General Manager, NABARD; Dr. Tushar Kanti Behera, Director, ICAR-IIHR, Hesaraghatta; Mohammed Parvez Banthanal, Director, Watershed Development Department; and Dr. Sadanand G.K., Deputy Director, CoE-FPO, Bengaluru, along with many other dignitaries.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Vishnuvardhan, Vice Chancellor, University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot. In his address, Dr. Vasudev K.R., Director, CoE-FPO, highlighted the need to transform Farmer Producer Organizations into strong, professionally managed and sustainable business entities for the economic empowerment of farmers.
Ponnad FPO’s journey under the 10,000 FPO Scheme of the Government of India
Ponnad Farmer Producer Company Limited was established in 2021 under the Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India for the creation and promotion of 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations. Since its inception, the organization has been receiving continuous support and guidance from Isha Outreach.
The organization, which initially had 310 farmer shareholders, has today grown into a strong organization with 750 farmer shareholders. This is a testament to the immense trust, support and confidence that farmers have placed in the organization.
Ponnad FPO is mainly engaged in the procurement, storage, aggregation and marketing of coffee, pepper and cardamom, creating better market opportunities for farmers and strengthening collective business activities. The company also operates an agricultural implements sales centre, providing farmers with various estate-related materials and farm implements. Essential products, including agricultural inputs, organic fertilizers and fish feed, are available at the centre.
In addition, the company supports quality agriculture and good crop practices by supplying UPASI-certified lime to its farmer shareholders. Ponnad Farmer Producer Company Limited achieved a turnover of Rs. 15 crore in the financial year 2025-26. This significant achievement reflects the strength of collective farmer entrepreneurship, professional management, transparent systems and effective market-based business activities.
The company provides free soil-testing services to its farmer shareholders, offering recommendations and guidance on nutrient management and crop growth based on the results of soil testing.
With the aim of providing continuous support to farmers, the organization regularly visits fields and provides crop-management and technical guidance. Through these field-level services, farmers receive practical assistance in crop management, productivity enhancement and the adoption of good farming practices.
The organization provides extensive support to many farmers, especially small and marginal farmers in the Napoklu area. Ponnad FPO has earned a unique identity through its transparency, effective services and farmer-centric approach.
Ponnad FPO’s success is not limited to the state level; the organization has also received significant recognition at the national level. It has previously received national-level accolades from prestigious organizations, including the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Krishi Jagran.
Now, with the FPO Output Excellence Award from the Government of Karnataka, Ponnad Farmer Producer Company Limited has received recognition at both the national and state levels. This reflects the organization’s continued commitment to farmer development, professional management, business excellence and sustainable agricultural growth.
This prestigious accolade is the result of the trust and support of 750 farmer shareholders, the dedicated leadership of the Board of Directors, the continuous guidance and support of Isha Outreach, and the hard work of the company’s staff.

The Board of Directors has played a key role in providing effective leadership and direction to the organization. Isha Outreach has been providing continuous support and guidance since its inception. The Board of Directors comprises Appachettolanda K. Manu Muthappa, Kulletira G. Ajith Nanaiah, Mukkatira M. Vinay, Ketolira Ratna Charana, Katumaniyanda M. Umesh, Kodira M. Prasanna Thammaiyya, and Isha Outreach representatives Ramapriya – CRC, Coimbatore, and Isha Outreach’s Vishwanath Chatraki – CBBO Coordinator, Isha Outreach, Karnataka.
Company staff members are Mahesh Ullas – Chief Executive Officer; Manoj Kumar – Input Shop Manager; and Mani – Company Assistant Manager. The award ceremony was attended by members of the Board of Directors and representatives of Isha Outreach, Swami Chidambaram and Vishwanath Chatraki, on behalf of Ponnad.
