It is wonderful to see community groups taking spontaneous action to keep their surroundings clean and green. “Cleanliness is next to godliness” is a well-known proverb asserting that maintaining physical hygiene and a tidy environment is as morally important as spiritual purity. Equally, the phrase “God helps those who help themselves” emphasizes the importance of self-initiative.
Let’s hope this initiative, the seeds of which was planted by the hugely successful COHERA project keeps our Panchayats on their toes and make them aware of their primary responsibilities. Citizens will eagerly participate if initiatives such as these are also visibly supported by the Administration. – CLN Newsdesk
As part of our regular commitment to keeping Mother Earth free from garbage, the residents of Chelavara and Cheyandane villages, homestay and hotel owners, and volunteers from different parts of Coorg once again joined hands for a cleanliness drive. Today’s campaign focused on cleaning Chelavara Falls, the entire Choma Kundh, and Kabbe Kundh, ensuring these beautiful natural spots remain free from litter.
It is unfortunate that many people continue to throw garbage in such pristine places. Lasting change can only come when environmental responsibility is taught from the grassroots level through our education system.
Our continuous cleaning efforts over the years have made a visible difference, helping the village remain clean and setting an example of community participation.
The only sustainable way to maintain these eco sensitive destinations is through a public private partnership between the Gram Panchayat and responsible local stakeholders. A modest, controlled entry fee can be introduced, with the revenue used exclusively for the betterment of the village in terms of cleaner garbage free environment and to control irresponsible activities of tourists. Priorities should include scientific garbage management, clean public spaces, and well maintained toilets built to international standards, ensuring a better experience for visitors while protecting nature.
Let’s not leave our footprints only but nurture our love for nature.
