A detailed discussion on the preparation of the Kodagu District Human Development Report (DHDR)-2025 and the Integrated and Sustainable District Development Plan (ISDDP)-2031 was held at the District-Level Monitoring Committee meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner S.J. Somashekar on Monday.

At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner welcomed Kodagu Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Anand Prakash Meena, district-level officers, and the coordinators of the technical support institutions.

Addressing the meeting, Zilla Panchayat CEO Anand Prakash Meena said that, in accordance with the directions of the Planning Department, the District Planning Committee has initiated the preparation of the DHDR-2025 and ISDDP-2031 reports. He stated that district-level training workshops had already been conducted by state resource persons to guide officials on compiling accurate and reliable data. As per the Government order, the team led by Prof. Navith Thimmaiah, Chairman of the Department of Economics and Cooperation, University of Mysore, along with the designated technical support institution based in Mysuru, has been entrusted with the preparation of these reports. The institutions have also conducted training programmes for taluk-level officers. Several zonal sub-committee meetings have already been held at the district level, during which departmental officers were instructed to furnish comprehensive and accurate data. The Government has identified 232 indicators for the preparation of the Kodagu District Human Development Report-2025 and the Integrated and Sustainable District Development Plan-2031. Data relating to these indicators has already been submitted by the respective district-level departments.

Mallikarjuna Swamy, Co-Coordinator of the technical support institution, and Prof. Navith Thimmaiah of the University of Mysore informed the committee that the data submitted by various departments had been thoroughly verified and sought the committee’s approval for the same.

With regard to the Integrated and Sustainable District Development Plan-2031, the committee resolved to include case studies on six key themes: challenges faced by workers in coffee plantations; early childhood care and pre-primary education; human-wildlife conflict; solid waste management within Madikeri City Municipal Council limits; disaster management in natural disaster-prone Gram Panchayats of Kodagu district; and sustainable, eco-friendly tourism development.

In accordance with Government directions, it was also decided to include an assessment of the impact of the Government’s Five Guarantee Schemes on economic development as part of the Human Development Report.

Deputy Commissioner S.J. Somashekar directed all district-level officers to provide complete and authentic data to ensure that the reports accurately reflect the district’s ground realities. He also instructed the coordinators of the technical support institutions to prepare a comprehensive and realistic report highlighting the major issues and challenges faced by Kodagu district, along with practical recommendations to address them.

The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer Abdul Nabhi, Planning Director Jeevan Kumar, Joint Director of the Food and Civil Supplies Department ShantagoudaGunaki, Lead Bank Manager Gangadhar Naik, district-level officers of various departments, Taluk Panchayat Executive Officers, Municipal Commissioners, and other officials.
