A cardiology unit will soon become operational in Kodagu district following the State Government’s approval, Madikeri MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda said.

He was speaking after inaugurating a blood donation camp organised by Madhyama Spandana at Cyrus Hospital in Kushalnagar.

Dr. Mantar Gowda said that nearly 400 to 450 patients from Kodagu travel outside the district every week for specialised medical treatment. To address this issue, the government has initiated measures to establish advanced healthcare facilities in the district in a phased manner, enabling residents to access quality medical treatment locally.

Commending Madhyama Spandana for organising the blood donation camp, he said the initiative would help save numerous lives. He appreciated the volunteers for their commitment to social service and assured them of his continued support for all their welfare activities.

Ajjamada Ramesh Kuttappa, Founder of Madhyama Spandana, said the responsibility of establishing a super-speciality hospital in Kodagu rests with the elected representatives. He urged MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda to take the lead in ensuring that the long-pending demand for such a facility is realised.

B.R. Savita Rai, Director of the Karnataka State Working Journalists’ Association, expressed concern over the lack of equal treatment for all patients at the district hospital. She urged the MLA to look into the matter and ensure equitable healthcare services for everyone.

Dr. T.P. Jinash, Orthopaedic Surgeon at Cyrus Hospital, said it was a matter of pride for the hospital to collaborate with Madhyama Spandana in organising the blood donation camp. He assured that Cyrus Hospital would continue to extend its support to social and community welfare initiatives.

On the occasion, the management of Cyrus Hospital felicitated MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda in recognition of his support. The MLA also distributed certificates to the blood donors and specially congratulated Madhyama Spandana member Arun Kumar, who has donated blood 42 times.

The programme was compered by T.R. Prabhudev, a member of Madhyama Spandana.

Among those present were Dr. K.P. Karumbaiah, Head of the Blood Bank Centre; M.N. Chandramohan, President of the Kushalnagar Taluk Working Journalists’ Association; K.B. Shamshuddin, Coordinator of the blood donation camp; Rejith Kumar, President of the Virajpet Taluk Working Journalists’ Association; Mustafa, Vice-President of the Taluk Association; directors Raghu Hebbale and H.C.
