Senior writer Bala subrahmanya Kanjaparane emphasised the need for continuous encouragement of writers in Kodagu to ensure wider recognition of their work.
He was speaking at the B.S. Gopalakrishna Datti Award ceremony organised by the Kodagu District unit of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat in association with the Kodagu Journalists Association at Red Bricks Inn.
Dr. K.B. Suryakumar, founder of Shakti newspaper, was honoured with the award for his literary contributions, particularly his poetry.
Speakers at the event remembered B.S. Gopalakrishna as a fearless and principled journalist who used journalism for public good rather than personal gain. His contributions to Kodagu’s public life and journalism were recalled with appreciation.
Journalists Association President H.T. Anil noted that when doctors turn writers, their knowledge benefits society at large.
Dr. Suryakumar, in his acceptance speech, said that readers are akin to God for a writer and that appreciation from readers enables literary growth.
A road in the Madikeri Industrial Estate will soon be named after B.S. Gopalakrishna following efforts by the Kodagu Journalists Association.
