Tiger capturing operation halted due to wild bee attack

As wild bees attacked the forest department personnel and the trained elephant recently the operation of capturing the tiger in Hariharapura near Srimangala was temporarily withdrawn.

The tiger was spotted two times while drinking water from the Subrahmanya Temple’s Pond in Harihara. The tiger had later made its way into a coffee plantation nearby.

The residents had urged the forest department to capture the elephant. Accordingly, the Forest department, with its team, took up the operation.

Trained elephant Bhima and Narendra, along with sharp shooter Ranjan were a part of the team. Suddenly, the bees attacked the sharp shooter and the elephant Bhima.

An injured Ranjan was shifted to the Government District Hospital, Madikeri.

Stung by bees, a frightened Bhima too backed off. Bhima’s mahout Kulla has also suffered injuries and is undergoing treatment.

The officials had to stop the operation. Around 50 personnel from the department were a part of the team. Thithimathi ACF Gopal and RFO Gangadhara were also present.
