Morning Glory by the Lake

Date:

Comments:

The lake receives the sun
amid a chorus of waking birds,
ripples catching gold
as the day clears its throat.

Clouds rise in burnished hues—
amber, saffron, flame—
while the far edges of the sky
still remember blue.

Wings cross the lighted air,
sound braided with motion,
and morning speaks everywhere
at once.

Along the shore,
bush morning glory opens,
violet cups lifting sunrise,
their soft throats holding light
and song together.

Nothing stands apart.
Water, flower, sky, and wing
lean forward in quiet agreement,
looking for a beautiful day ahead.
