The Codava National Council (CNC) successfully conducted its 21st Human Chain Awareness Programme at Pollibetta, reaffirming longstanding demands for constitutional recognition and protection of the indigenous Codava community.

Addressing the gathering, CNC President N.U. Nachappa Codava urged the government to restore the Codavas’ independent identity in the upcoming 2026-27 National Census. He called for a separate Census code and column for the community and highlighted the need for ST classification, geo-political autonomy, and permanent protection of Tok-Gun religious rights.

Nachappa Codava expressed concern over alleged attempts to distort Codava history, influence academic research, and mislead the community. He appealed to the authorities to rely on authentic historical works authored by respected scholars and to safeguard Codavas’ animistic traditions and cultural practices.

He also warned against demographic manipulation, misuse of migrant labour for electoral gain, and interference in the community’s constitutional rights.

The programme concluded with the national anthem. The CNC announced that the 22nd Codava Human Chain will be held at Thithimathi on December 15, 2025.
